Healthcare in America
It’s a huge topic of conversation right now, with the bickering over Obamacare by the politicians in Washington, and political maneuvering surrounding this debate threatening to shut down the government this week. But here are a few things to consider that you may not be considering. The US spends more in health care per capita than any other nation in the world, according to the WHO. We pay more in taxes for care than most countries with fully socialized health plans in place, and most Americans don’t receive any coverage from the programs this money goes into. We pay far more for care and medication than any other country, and uninsured individuals are less likely to be able to afford private insurance and much more likely to go bankrupt in the event of illness or injury than anywhere else in the world. Someone, please, explain to me the justification for a system that so completely fails at protecting one of the core rights in our very constitution: the right to life. Or does that only apply up until birth these days?
